What is this website?

This website contains a directory of open source applications. You can find all types of applications here, and they are available for all operating systems (Windows, Linux, macOS, Android, iOS). The applications are all open source and either completely free or have free versions. The list is constantly growing as I discover new applications or as you suggest new ones for me to add.

What is open source?

Open source is source code that is made freely available for possible modification and redistribution. Products include permission to use the source code, design documents, or content of the product. The open-source model is a decentralized software development model that encourages open collaboration. A main principle of open-source software development is peer production, with products such as source code, blueprints, and documentation freely available to the public.

Why should YOU use open source?

For starters, open source applications are free, and the code can be inspected by anyone. Because everyone has access to the code, bugs and other problems, such as exploits, can be found and fixed much faster; people don't have to wait for the company to recognize and fix problems. Once it is fixed, the company can make it available to everyone as an update. The best advantage is probably privacy; because of the open source code, these applications are unlikely to spy on you; if something like this was discovered, there would be a lot of backlash and people would abandon the application.
